8 Creative ways to make your home feel custom
Do you feel like your house lacks character and originality? Perhaps you live in a housing development where all of the homes all look the same, they all have the same floor plan, the same fixtures and fittings, and the same style.
If you want your home to stand out the best thing you can do is to design your space to look different from your neighbors.
Whether you’re building from the ground up, own a tract home, or are remodeling, here are a few things we recommend to make your home feel unique.
1. CREATE FEATURE WALLS
Applying paneling to walls is a great way to instantly change it from blah to interesting and also adds some character to the overall feel of your home. Once you decide to Invest in upgrading some of these details in your home, you will feel your unique personality reflected in your home! 2. INSTALL NEW WINDOW TREATMENTS
Adding new window treatments can really transform a space! I love the look of floor to ceiling curtains but you can also incorporate bamboo or linen shades. 3. ADD OVERSIZED RUG TO COVER UP LAME FLOORING
If you have don't love your carpet, tile, or wood floors, rugs are your new best friend! A large rug in the living room or bedroom will break up the your uneventful carpet. A runner in the kitchen over unfavorable tile is a great option too! It’s not a permanent fix, but it can do wonders.
4. UPGRADE YOUR DOORS & HANDLES
Most builder grade homes come with interior doors and handles that are lack luster and boring. Swapping out the doors is a great way to add personality. If swapping them out doesn't fit in your budget you could paint them a unique color or stain the wood to match your trim. Then upgrade your door knobs or handles with something modern, vintage, or traditional.
5. UPGRADE LIGHT FIXTURES
Lighting is such an important part of the home and until you swap out those dated or standard light fixtures, the space will always look unfinished or dated.
6. UPDATE THE KITCHEN CABINETS
Kitchen (and bathroom) cabinets are one of the main giveaways of a cookie cutter home. Paint can help update the look but if you really want to upgrade your home, go for the full remodel! Updated kitchen cabinets can seriously transform your entire home and a full remodel will also give you the chance to change the layout of your kitchen!
7. UPGRADE THE FLOORING
Floors are one of the first areas in a home to show wear and tear – it’s also one of the first things people notice when they enter a home. if your floors have different upgraded flooring you will definitely stand out!
8. SWITCH OUT STANDARD FAUCETS
Once again, it’s all about swapping out the standard features with something more more stylish and current instead of dated. There are so many different options to fit into your budget. The possibilities are endless!
